The Hillcrest Lady Screamin' Eagles faced Bay's Lady Yellowjackets in the opening round of the AA North Regional Basketball Tournament at Rector on Feb. 21.

The first quarter was a struggle, with Jessica Broadway opening the nets for Hillcrest. Both teams continued passing the lead back and forth. Freshman Tamara Evans dropped a shot as the buzzer sounded to put Hillcrest ahead 15-14 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter showcased tremendous defense, with the ladies tying the game 25-25 with 2:24 left in the half before the Lady Yellowjackets slipped out to a 30-28 lead at halftime.

After the break, the Lady Screamin' Eagles struggled with turnovers, which led to Bay baskets, as the Lady Yellowjackets extended their lead to 57-39 heading into the fourth quarter.

Hillcrest's defensive efforts paid off in the final period as they chiseled away at Bay's lead. The comeback effort fell short, though, as Bay held on for the 77-65 win.

Broadway led the Lady Eagles with 18 points. Whitney Jones added 14 points, and Jessica Jarrett closed with 13. Natalie Johnson contributed eight points, and Lauren Pickle added four. Terra Polston and Amber Glenn recorded three points each, and Evans chipped in two points.
