S-H girls win one, lose one

The Sloan-Hendrix Lady Greyhounds ended their season with a loss to Tuckerman in the second round of the 2A-2 District Basketball Tournament at Cedar Ridge on Feb. 13.
The Lady Bulldogs slipped out to a 15-7 first-quarter lead. Tuckerman continued their grueling defense in the second period and increased their lead to 28-13 at halftime.
Despite the Lady Greyhounds attempts, they trailed 40-26 heading into the final quarter. Tuckerman did not let up and coasted to a 63-42 win.
Brittany Conrad led the Lady Greyhounds with 13 points and eight rebounds. Megan Break contributed 11 points and seven boards. Amanda Green tossed in six points and had three rebounds. Hannah Rowsey closed with five points and two rebounds. Amy Green notched four points and three boards. Katie Williams closed with two points and one rebound, and Alivia Hackworth tossed in a free throw and had four rebounds.
The Lady Greyhounds opened the tournament with a 47-27 win over the Midland Lady Mustangs in the first round on Feb. 12.
Sloan-Hendrix took an 8-9 first-quarter lead, but the Lady Mustangs held a tight rein in the second quarter to stay within 18-16 at halftime.
Sloan-Hendrix began to overpower Midland in the third quarter, taking a 29-21 lead heading into the final quarter of play and cruising to the win in the final period.
Conrad led Sloan-Hendrix with 24 points. Amanda Green had 11 points. Christie Caldwell and Williams chipped in four points each. Break and Hackworth closed with two points each.
