Lady Mustangs earn
Lady Mustang Megan Black works to move inside as she is guarded by an East Poinsett County defender in the finals of the district tournament. Hoxie earned runners-up honors in the tournament, falling to EPC 59-41.
East Poinsett County's Sade Madden scored 29 points to lead the Lady Warriors to a 59-41 win over Hoxie's Lady Mustangs in the finals of the 3AAA District Basketball Tournament at Manila on Saturday.
The Lady Warriors took a 36-16 halftime lead over the Lady Mustangs.
Hoxie was unable to halt EPC, as they trailed 40-27 heading into the final quarter.
Megan Black led Hoxie with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Rachel Goff tossed in 11 points, and Jessica Barber added 10.
Hoxie will play Cave City in the first round of the AAA 3rd Regional Tournament at Bergman on Thursday at 4 p.m.
Hoxie faced the host Manila Lady Lions in the semifinals on Friday.
The Lady Mustangs pushed past the Lady Lions 15-10 at the close of the first quarter. The Lady Lions were overpowered by Hoxie, with the Lady Mustangs taking a 32-23 halftime lead.
Back to the court, Manila started a mini run to cut Hoxie's lead to 43-39 heading into the fourth quarter. The Lady Mustangs held off the Lady Lions for the 70-61 win.
Hoxie had three players in double digits, with Goff leading the way with 24 points.
Jessica Anglin had 19 points and 15 rebounds, and Black contributed 11 points and eight rebounds. Ashley Glenn recorded eight points. Whitney Parrish and Barber added four points each.
