BR junior teams complete season

The Black Rock junior Zebras competed in the 1A-3 South District Junior High Basketball Tournament held last week at Weiner.

The junior boys advanced to the second round, where they faced the host team, Weiner junior Cardinals.

Weiner grabbed a 13-2 lead over the Zebras. Black Rock began a steady series of baskets to narrow the Cardinals' lead to 18-13 at halftime.

As the teams returned to the court, Black Rock continued their strong defense, but still trailed 24-18 with the final quarter approaching. Despite the Zebras' determination, the Cardinals pulled away in the latter stages of the fourth quarter to take the 37-27 win.

Tadd Fore led the Zebras with seven points. Hunter Horton contributed six points, and Khris Foster notched five. Ben Walker added four points, and Tyler Roby recorded three.

First round

Black Rock took on Maynard in their first game of the tournament.

The junior Zebras sparked to a 16-2 lead over the junior Tigers at the close of the first quarter. Black Rock continued to hammer the boards, as they held a halftime lead of 25-6.

Back in action, Black Rock continued with their strong defense, holding a 34-15 lead, heading into the final quarter and coasted to a 49-25 win to advance to the next round.

Fore led the Zebras with 13 points. Roby contributed 10 points, and Horton recorded eight points and pulled down nine rebounds.


The junior Lady Zebras fell to Armorel 29-17 in the first round.
