Senior district tourneys begin
Lawrence County's senior high basketball teams began play in their respective district tournaments on Monday.
The Hoxie boys defeated Harrisburg 47-36. The Mustangs were to play East Poinsett County on Tuesday evening.
Hoxie's Lady Mustangs are the second seed in the girls bracket and received a bye into the semifinals. The Lady Mustangs will play their first game on Friday at 6 p.m.
The Hillcrest boys were defeated by White County Central 71-47. WCC advanced to the second round, where they were scheduled to play Walnut Ridge, who received a first-round bye. The Sloan-Hendrix boys were defeated by Quitman 55-27.
In the girls bracket, Sloan-Hendrix' Lady Greyhounds defeated Midland 47-27. The Lady Hounds were scheduled to take on Tuckerman Tuesday afternoon.
The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats are the top seed in the girls bracket and Hillcrest's Lady Screamin' Eagles are seeded second. Both teams received byes into the semifinals. Walnut Ridge will play the winner of Tuesday's Sloan-Hendrix versus Tuckerman game on Thursday at 6 p.m. Hillcrest will play the Cedar Ridge-White County Central winner on Friday at 6 p.m.
The Black Rock boys lost to Maynard 58-52 on Monday.
Black Rock's Lady Zebras were defeated by Delaplaine 60-47.
