Mustangs fall to MarmadukeDebbie Richey
Hoxie hosted the Marmaduke Greyhounds in boys basketball action on Friday.
In senior high action, the Greyhounds grabbed a 15-12 lead in the first quarter. Playing relentless defense, the Mustangs took a 29-28 lead at halftime.
Marmaduke regained the lead in the second half, entering the fourth quarter with a 53-43 advantage and went on to claim a 72-57 win over the Mustangs.
Ray Volner led Hoxie with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Tanner Jarrett added 15 points and 12 rebounds, and Jon Lawrence had 11 points.
In the junior high game, Marmaduke slipped by Hoxie in the first quarter 14-12 before Hoxie took charge in the second period to move ahead 27-21 heading into halftime.
The junior Mustangs continued to lead 40-35 entering the fourth quarter and held on to record a 58-55 victory.
Chris Montelongo recorded a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Joseph Richardson closed with 16 points and seven rebounds. Cade Crisler had 14 points and five assists, and Jake Hitt added eight points.
In seventh grade action, Hoxie led 8-3 at the end of the first quarter. Marmaduke came out in the second quarter and took a 23-14 lead at halftime.
The Greyhounds continued to hold a 29-25 edge over the Mustangs, but Hoxie lit up the gym in the final quarter, as they defeated Marmaduke in a barnburner, 37-36.
Sebastian Irvin paced the Mustangs with 16 points. Tyler Hall added eight points, and Devin Roberts contributed six. The Mustangs were 14-of-21 from the free-throw line.
Volner led Hoxie with 14 points, and Jarrett added 12.
In junior high action, Harrisburg's Zach Davis sank a three-pointer at the buzzer to defeat the junior Mustangs 36-33.
