Lady Mustangs beat
Manila and Piggott

The Hoxie Lady Mustangs went on the road and picked up a 58-37 win over Manila's Lady Lions on Thursday. With the win, the Lady Mustangs clinched second place in Conference 3A-3.

The Lady Mustangs took command early, taking a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Hoxie continued to demonstrate their athletic ability in the second quarter and led 35-19 at halftime.

Hoxie dominated Manila, leading 51-24 heading into the final quarter on their way to recording their 16th win of the season.

Rachel Goff led the Lady Mustangs with 16 points. Megan Black contributed 13 points, and Ashley Glenn closed with 12. Jessica Barber had nine points, and Jessica Anglin added five.

In the junior girls game, Hoxie eased to a 6-4 lead heading into the second quarter and increased their lead to 18-10 at halftime. The Lady Mustangs iced the game in the second half, taking a 33-11 lead in the third quarter and coasting to a 35-16 win.

Amy Galbreath led Hoxie with 16 points. Alyssa McConnell and Brittany Hembrey each had six points. Kelsey Lewis added four points, and Courtney Jones had two.

Hoxie won a lopsided seventh grade contest 49-4. The Lady Mustangs raced to a 14-0 first-quarter lead on their way to a commanding 24-4 halftime lead. Hoxie continued to hammer the boards in the second half, taking a 39-4 lead at the close of the third quarter.

Dallas Wilson, Ashlyn Abbott and Autumn Nelson each had eight points to lead Hoxie. Alyssa Ka Auwai contributed seven points, and Katelyn Cook added six. Alexia Crow closed with four points, while Hali Pratt and Taylor Smith each tossed in two points.


The Lady Mustangs rolled to a 72-41 win over Piggott on Jan. 22 at Hoxie.

Hoxie took an early 10- 8 lead heading into the second quarter and led 25-18 at the break.

The Lady Mustangs held a commanding 53-34 lead after three quarters en route to the blowout win.

Anglin led Hoxie with 20 points. Goff had 14 points, and Black added 10. Barber tossed in nine points and Glenn closed with eight.

In junior girls action, Hoxie overthrew Piggott in the first quarter leading 13-5. Piggott rallied in the second quarter to cut Hoxie's lead to 22-18 at the halftime break.

Back to the court, the Lady Mustangs outlasted Piggott leading 26-25, approaching the last quarter. The fourth quarter was a race against the clock, as the game was tied 34-34 at the end of regulation. Hoxie failed to regain their hold on the Lady Mohawks, losing 49-43 in over time.

The Mustangs were led by McConnell with 15 points and Galbreath with 14 points. Chasity Becker and Hembrey added four points each.

In a seventh grade girls contest, the game was tied 4-4 after the first quarter before the Lady Mohawks edged to a 10-8 lead at the halftime buzzer.

The Jr. Lady Mustangs interrupted Piggott s momentum, taking a 16-12 lead at the close of the third quarter and held off the Lady Mohawks for the25-23 victory.

Hoxie was led by Cook with eight points. Abbott, Nelson, Smith and Ka Auwai each contributed four points.
