Lady Cats clinch conference title

Sloan-Hendrix hosted Walnut Ridge in high school basketball action on Jan. 23 at Imboden. Walnut Ridge's Lady Bobcats clinched the Conference 2A-2 championship with a 42-32 win over Sloan-Hendrix.
Walnut Ridge's Lady Cats slipped to a 9-6 lead over the Lady Hounds at the close of the first quarter and continued their dueling defense in the second quarter to take a 24-16 lead at halftime.
Walnut Ridge continued to hold a 31-23 lead after three quarters and went on to record the win.
Chelsea Treadway and Chelsey Linebaugh scored 11 points each to lead the Lady Bobcats. Rachel Looney had nine points, and Vanessa Oliver added seven. Jordan Rorex and Lacey Cobble had two points each.
Sloan-Hendrix was lead by Brittany Conrad with 18 points and nine rebounds. Amanda Green followed with eight points and 10 rebounds. Megan Break contributed five points and pulled down seven boards, and Amy Green recorded a free-throw.
In senior boys action, Sloan-Hendrix grabbed an early 13-8 lead over Walnut Ridge as the first quarter came to an end. Walnut Ridge gained momentum in the second period, as Chris Logan tied the game 17-17 with 1:36 left to play in the quarter, propelling the Bobcats to a 21-17 halftime lead.
After the break, the Cats did not let up on defense, forcing Greyhound turnovers, which the Bobcats turned into points, allowing them to hang onto a 31-27 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Walnut Ridge pulled away in the final period for a 51-33 conference victory.
Chris Logan and Seth Chamblee each scored 14 points to lead Walnut Ridge, while Cameron Kelley and Tyler Kennedy had 10 points each for the Bobcats.
Stanley Archer led Sloan-Hendrix with 11 points.
The junior boys started off the night with a double-overtime barnburner. Walnut Ridge led 42-40 with 2:26 left to play in overtime, but the Greyhounds rallied to tie the game at 45-45 and force a second overtime.
In the next overtime, Walnut Ridge took a 47-45 lead with 1:50 left to play, but the Hounds regained the lead 48-47 with 1:02 remaining. It seemed to be the Bobcats turn, as they went ahead again 49-48 with 54 seconds left to play. Walnut Ridge scored again with 30 seconds left, making the score 51-48.
Sloan-Hendrix sank a two-point shot at the buzzer, but fell one point short, as the Bobcats took the hard-fought 51-50 victory.
