Hillcrest, S-H split games

Hillcrest hosted Sloan-Hendrix in high school basketball on Friday at Strawberry.

Senior girls

The senior girls took the court with each team being shy of main players due to injuries and illness.

Sloan-Hendrix edged to a 9-8 lead at the close of the first quarter. Hillcrest was figuring out their game, as Sloan-Hendrix increased their lead to 21-16 at the halftime break.

Back to the court the Lady Hounds maintained control to lead 32-29 as the fourth quarter approached. Hillcrest deployed the shots needed, along with their strong defense, and captured the home victory 41-37.

The Lady Eagles were led by Jessica Jarrett with 15 points. Amber Glenn contributed 10 points, and Lauren Pickle added eight. Terra Polston closed with five points, and Whitney Jones recorded three.

Sloan-Hendrix was led by Christie Caldwell led with nine points. Amanda Green and Brittany Conrad contributed eight points each. Megan Break added seven points, and Amy Green closed with five points.

Senior boys

Sloan-Hendrix grabbed a 15-6 lead over Hillcrest at the end of the first quarter. The Screamin' Eagles began to defend the court in the second quarter, cutting the Greyhounds' lead to 26-20 at the break.

The Hounds did not falter and held a 45-36 third-quarter lead. With the teams battling it out in the final quarter, the Greyhounds took the road win by a score of 68-55.

Sloan-Hendrix was led by Rodger Dexter with 26 points. Stanley Archer added 13 points, while Chad Orrick and Johnnie Snider contributed 10 points each. John Thomison closed with five points, and Austin Morgan and Jake Mans closed with two points each.

The Screamin' Eagles were led by Jordan Hunter with 15 points. Rob Mize added 10 points, and Aaron Britton contributed nine. Jared Parker notched eight points, and Dustin Durham recorded four. Dillion Simpson closed with three points, and Donnie Fowler, Chris Blevins and Jared Cook chipped in two points each.

Junior boys

The Hillcrest junior boys achieved an 18-8 first-quarter lead over Sloan-Hendrix, and the Screamin' Eagles continued to drop baskets and took a 33-20 lead to the dressing room at break.

Back to the court, Sloan-Hendrix began lighting up threes, as they narrowed the lead to 46-40 closing the third quarter. Hillcrest recovered in the final quarter and held on for the 55-49 win.

The Eagles were lead by Derek Wooten with 20 points. Dylan Wooten contributed 11 points, and Chris Jones added nine. Jacob Clifton notched eight points, and Tyler Crews closed with four. Hunter Durham recorded two points, and Tye Hines added a free throw.

Chase Dejournett led the Greyhounds with 21 points, and Coy Yasler added 20. Zack Ogden contributed six points, while Tyler Gillean closed with two points and Jerrod Engel recorded a free throw.
