Hoxie girls fall to EPC

Hoxie's Lady Mustangs went on the road and suffered a 62-38 setback at the hands of the East Poinsett County Lady Warriors on Friday at Lepanto.

EPC took an early 17-9 lead over the Lady Mustangs. Hoxie began hitting the boards in the second quarter, but still trailed 34-22 at the halftime buzzer.

Hoxie failed to regain the momentum, as they continued to trail 46-31 heading into the final quarter, as EPC claimed the win.

Leading scorers for Hoxie were Megan Black with 16 points and Jessica Barber with eight. Rachel Goff contributed six points, and Jessica Anglin closed the night with four.

In junior high action, Hoxie's Amy Galbreath scored 20 points to lead the junior Lady Mustangs to a 43-33 win.

Hoxie started fast, taking a 19-7 lead after one quarter and continued to lead 23-13 heading to the dressing room for halftime.

EPC came out after the break with demanding defense, but Hoxie continued to hold a 32-27 lead.

Also for Hoxie, Alyssa McConnell added 10 points, and Brittany Hembrey closed with seven. Amanda Nelson and Chasity Becker contributed three points each.

The Hoxie seventh grade girls fell to EPC 34-13.

EPC took a 10-3 lead over the Lady Mustangs at the end of the first quarter. Hoxie got on the boards in the second quarter, but EPC still led16-9 at halftime.

EPC continued to control the game, leading 28-11 heading to the last quarter of play.

Leading scorers for Hoxie were Autumn Nelson and Taylor Smith with four points each. Dallas Wilson added three points, and Ashlyn Abbott closed with two.

Marmaduke

Marmaduke's Lady Greyhounds visited Hoxie for three games on Jan. 15.

In senior high action, Black scored 14 points and had 13 rebounds to lead a balanced Hoxie offense, as the Lady Mustangs earned a 64-44 victory.

The Lady Mustangs came out ready to sweep the night, as they took a 13-10 lead after one quarter. Hoxie's defense played havoc on the Lady Hounds, as the Lady Mustangs led 32-25 at halftime.

Back to the hardwood, Hoxie dominated the court taking a 49-36 lead entering the final period.

In addition to Black, Anglin added 12 points for Hoxie, while Ashley Glenn and Erica Galbreath contributed 11 points each. Goff closed with nine points, and Jessica Barber notched four points and 11 boards. Whitlee Parrish recorded three points for the night.

Earlier in the evening, the junior Lady Mustangs defeated the junior Lady Hounds 34-28.

Hoxie grabbed an 8-3 lead as the teams headed to the second quarter. The Lady Greyhounds put up a fight and closed the gap to 13-10 as the first half came to a close.

Hoxie continued to hammer the boards after halftime and increased their lead 22-12 as the final quarter approached.

McConnell led Hoxie with 10 points, and Hembrey followed with nine. Kelsey Lewis added six points, and Becker closed with four. Courtney Jones notched three points, and Nelson chipped in two.

In seventh grade girl's action, Marmaduke led 2-0 at the end of the first quarter, but Hoxie gained ground and took a 9-7 lead at the close of the first half.

The Lady Mustangs continue leading 19-11 at the close of the third quarter and held on for the 19-14 win.
