Lady Mustangs beat HarrisburgDebbie Richey
The Hoxie Lady Mustangs traveled to Harrisburg on Jan. 8 and won two of three games from the Lady Hornets.
Hoxie dominated the senior high game, winning 69-51.
Hoxie pushed past Harrisburg to lead 17-6 heading into the second quarter and continued to lead 43-12 at halftime.
Hoxie returned to the court with a solid shooting performance, leading 54-27 as the final quarter approached.
Hoxie was led by Jessica Anglin, who scored 20 points in the first half. Erika Galbreath added 12 points, and Jessica Barber closed with 11. Rachel Goff notched 10 points, while Whitlee Parish and Megan Black chipped in four points each.
In junior high action, Harrisburg slipped ahead of Hoxie 15-8 at the end of the first quarter. The junior Lady Mustangs began to charge Harrisburg in the second quarter, but still trailed 21-15 at halftime.
Harrisburg still led 31-22, heading into the final quarter of play. Hoxie began connecting with the boards in the last quarter, but the Mustangs fell to Harrisburg 40-33.
Courtney Jones led the Mustangs with nine points, and Brittany Hembrey added eight. Amy Galbreath made five points and Kelsey Lewis closed with four. Chasity Becker contributed three points, and Alyssa McConnell tossed in two.
The Hoxie seventh grade girls earned a 22-11 win.
Hoxie led 8-2 after one quarter before Harrisburg rallied to trail by only one, 8-7 at halftime.
After the break, Hoxie increased their lead to 15-7 entering the final period.
Autumn Nelson led the Mustangs with eight points. Ashlyn Abbott added five points, and Katlyn Cook closed with four. Alyssa KaAuwai and Dallas Wilson made three points each.
