Screamin' Eagles suffer losses

The Hillcrest Screamin' Eagles fell to the Quitman Bulldogs 57-43 in senior boys basketball on Friday at Lynn.
Hillcrest trailed the Bulldogs 13-7 closing the first quarter of play. Quitman hammered the boards, as they increased their lead over the Eagles to 30-16 heading into halftime.
Despite Hillcrest's efforts, they continued to trail the Bulldogs 44-27 entering the final quarter.
Aaron Britton led the Eagles with 16 points, and Jordan Hunter followed with 15. Jared Cook contributed four points, and Ludie Sexton aced a three. Dillion Simpson and Jared Parker each closed with two points, and Rob Mize added a free throw.
In junior high action, Hillcrest jumped out to a 10-0 first quarter lead and never looked back on their way to posting a 36-24 win over Quitman.
Hillcrest continued with their relentless defense in the second quarter, taking a 23-7 lead to the locker room at halftime.
The Eagles continued to overpower the Bulldogs 34-11, heading into the final quarter of play.
Derek Wooten led the Eagles with 15 points, followed by Dylan Wooten and Chris Jones with eight points each. Josh Mayland added a three-pointer, and Hunter Durham contributed two points.
Hillcrest fell to the Cedar Ridge Timberwolves 74-57 in senior high action on Jan. 2 at Lynn.
Cedar Ridge took a small lead of 16-15 heading into the second quarter. The Timberwolves were too much for the Eagles, as they led 42-24 at halftime.
Cedar Ridge continued to overrun Hillcrest 54-35 as the third quarter came to an end. The Timberwolves did not let up as they took the road win of 74-57.
Hunter led Hillcrest with 18 points. Sexton contributed nine points and Mize added seven. Britton, Chris Blevins and Simpson each closed with six points. Parker notched two points, and Patrick Corder closed with a free throw.
