Lady Hounds beat MidlandDebbie Richey
The Sloan-Hendrix Lady Greyhounds defeated Midland's Lady Mustangs 47-43 in senior girls basketball on Friday at Midland.
Sloan-Hendrix rolled into an 11-9 lead at the close of the first quarter and held a 23-21 lead over the Lady Mustangs at the halftime break.
Returning to the court, Midland eased into a 37-30 lead over the Hounds at the close of the third quarter, but Sloan-Hendrix overpowered Midland in the final period to claim the conference road win.
Brittany Conrad led the Lady Hounds with 29 points and seven rebounds, while hitting 13-of-16 field goals. Amanda Green scored nine points and pulled down eight rebounds, and Katelyn Morris contributed six points and four rebounds. Christie Caldwell tossed in three points and had two rebounds, and Megan Break recorded seven boards.
Midland defeated Sloan-Hendrix 45-35 in a junior girls game.
The junior Lady Mustangs slipped into a 9-5 lead, closing the first quarter. Sloan-Hendrix could not maneuver past Midlands's defense, and trailed 27-13 at the halftime break.
Back to the court, Midland continued to hold the lead over the Lady Hounds 35-19 at the end of the third quarter.
Sloan-Hendrix began to rally, but the attempt was too late, as Midland took the win over the Lady Greyhounds.
Alivia Hackworth led the Hounds with 18 points and four rebounds. Kristin Belcher contributed six points and eight rebounds. Hannah Rowsey added five points, three rebounds and five steals. Haley Slusser closed with four points and two rebounds. Heidi Powers tossed in a free throw and pulled down five boards, and Amanda Holland closed with a free throw.
