Hillcrest girls record wins

The Hillcrest Lady Screamin' Eagles defeated Quitman 72-50 in senior girls basketball on Friday at Lynn.
Hillcrest grabbed a 16-7 lead over the Lady Bulldogs at the close of the first quarter, but Quitman got their game on in the second quarter, tying the Lady Eagles 29-29 at halftime.
In the third period, Hillcrest edged into a 45-39 lead as the final quarter approached. The Lady Eagles proved too much for the Lady Bulldogs as Hillcrest took the win.
Jessica Jarrett led Hillcrest with 19 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Amber Glenn contributed 17 points and 10 boards. Jessica Broadway added 16 points, and Breanna Doyle chipped in 12. Terra Polston closed with three points, and Whitney Jones hit a three-point shot.
The senior Lady Screamin' Eagles eked out a 63-60 win over Cedar Ridge on Jan. 2 at Lynn.
Hillcrest blistered the nets early, taking a 27-15 lead closing the first quarter. The Lady Screamin' Eagles overpowered the Lady Timberwolves, as they continued to lead 38-30, heading into the dressing room for halftime.
Back after the break, the Lady Timberwolves tied the game with 4:23 left to play in the quarter. Cedar Ridge took the lead at 45-42 with 2:56 left. Hillcrest's Jessica Jarrett tied the game 47-47 with a free throw, but Cedar Ridge eased into a 50-47 lead over the Lady Eagles as they headed in to the last quarter of play.
The game was tied 52-52 with 5:52 to play. The match was back and forth with the game tied again at 60-60 with one minute to play, before the Lady Eagles eased ahead for good.
Doyle led Hillcrest with 18 points and nine rebounds. Glenn contributed 16 points and eight rebounds. Broadway chipped in 14 points and nine rebounds. Jarrett closed with six points, and Jones, Polston and Lauren Pickle tossed in three points each.
The Hillcrest junior girls notched a 31-22 win over Cedar Ridge.
The Lady Eagles held a small lead of 5-3 over the Lady Timberwolves closing the first quarter. As the first half came to an end, Hillcrest led 17-9.
The junior Lady Eagles continued to hold the lead over the Lady Timberwolves in the second half on their way to the win.
Natalie Johnson led Hillcrest with 14 points. Tamara Evans contributed eight points, and Miranda Doyle closed with four. Katelyn Hammock and Shelby Huskey added two points each.
