Lady Eagles sweep Midland

The Lady Eagles defeated the Midland Lady Mustangs 58-42 on Dec. 12 at Lynn.
Hillcrest took a 19-15 lead to close out the first quarter and increased their lead to 32-24 as the half ended.
The Lady Eagles continued to own the court in the second half, as they held a 44-37 lead heading into the final period of play.
Hillcrest was led by Jessica Broadway with 24 points and four rebounds. Breanna Doyle contributed 10 points, one rebound and one assist. Amber Glenn topped out with eight points, six rebounds and two assists. Jessica Jarrett closed with eight points and three rebounds, and Kalie Durham notched three points, a rebound and two assists.
Hillcrest defeated Midland 49-46 in a junior high game.
The junior Lady Eagles took a 12-3 lead over the Mustangs of Midland to close out the first quarter. Midland began hammering the boards, but Hillcrest still held an 18-15 halftime lead.
Back on the hardwood, Hillcrest continued to hold a 37-32 lead over the Lady Mustangs a the end of the third quarter.
With the final quarter underway, the junior Lady Eagles led 44-43 with three minutes left on the clock. Hillcrest continued their strong defense, holding a 46-43 lead with 1:40 left to play. Natalie Johnson sank two free throws with 38.7 seconds left to play to ice the game.
Tamara Evans led Hillcrest with 19 points and two rebounds. Johnson contributed 13 points, seven rebounds and an assist. Miranda Doyle added seven points, two rebound and two assists. Katelyn Hammock tossed in six points and had eight rebounds. Stevie Howard had four points and four rebounds, and Shelby Huskey recorded an assist.
The Hillcrest junior high girls lost to Tuckerman 45-34 Thursday night at Lynn.
Tuckerman eased into an 11-10 lead over Hillcrest to close out the first quarter and continued to lead as the teams left the court for halftime.
Despite the Lady Eagles efforts, the Lady Bulldogs increased their lead to 31-24 heading in to the last quarter. Tuckerman continue to hammer the boards, taking the victory over the junior Lady Eagles.
Johnson led Hillcrest with 16 points, and Evans contributed eight. Hammock netted six points, and Howard and Doyle tossed in two points each.
