Lady Hounds claim OT winDebbie Richey
The Sloan-Hendrix Lady Greyhounds traveled to Judsonia on Friday to take on the Lady Bears of White County Central. Sloan-Hendrix' Christy Caldwell sank a free throw in the final seconds of overtime to lift the Lady Hounds to a 36-35 win.
The game started slow, as the Lady Greyhounds took a 9-6 lead heading into the second quarter and continued to lead 14-12 at the end of a low-scoring first half.
Sloan-Hendrix continued to lead 23-22 after three quarters, but the Lady Bears were able to send the game into overtime tied at 32-32. The teams continued to battle until Caldwell's free throw rolled around the rim four times before dropping through and deciding matters in favor of the Lady Greyhounds.
Amanda Green led Sloan-Hendrix with 13 points and four rebounds. Katelyn Morris had eight points and four rebounds, and Brittany Conrad added seven points and pulled down nine boards. Caldwell closed with six points and four rebounds, and Megan Break recorded two points and eight rebounds.
Sloan-Hendrix lost to the Cedar Ridge Lady Timberwolves 43-34 in senior girls basketball on Dec. 12 at Imboden.
The Lady Greyhounds were in control early, leading 16-8 after the first quarter, but Cedar Ridge began to come back in the second period and cut the Lady Hounds' lead to 20-16 at halftime.
An evenly played third quarter ended with Sloan-Hendrix holding on to a four-point lead at 26-22, but Cedar Ridge was able to surge past the Lady Greyhounds in the final period for the nine-point win.
Conrad led the Greyhounds with 16 points and six rebounds. Green contributed 10 points and four rebounds, and Morris chipped in eight points and had seven rebounds.
In junior high action, Ashley Stallings hit a last-second shot to give Sloan-Hendrix a thrilling 26-25 win over Cedar Ridge.
The junior Lady Hounds fell behind in the first quarter as the Lady Timberwolves led 15-10 at the end of the period. The Lady Hounds began turning things around in the second period and trailed by only one point, 17-16 at the close of the first half.
As Sloan Hendrix returned to the hardwood, they gained a 20-19 lead over Cedar Ridge. The outcome remained in doubt until the Lady Hounds prevailed on Stallings' game-winning shot.
Kristin Belcher led the Lady Hounds six points and seven rebounds. Stallings finished with six points and four rebounds. Alivia Hackworth added five points and a rebound, and Hannah Rowsey notched four points and four rebounds. Kara Morris closed with three points and four rebounds, and Haley Slusser chipped in two points and a rebound.
