Lady Cats defeat QuitmanDebbie Richey
The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats took to the road on Friday and picked up a 45-32 win over the Quitman Lady Bulldogs.
Walnut Ridge jumped ahead 11-4 in the first quarter. The Lady Bulldogs tried to adjust the score, but still trailed 14-11 at halftime.
The game was tied 21-21 after three quarters, before the Lady Cats put the game away in the final period.
The win improved the Lady Bobcats record to 11-1 overall and 7-0 in conference play.
Vanessa Oliver led the Lady Bobcats with 11 points, and Chelsea Treadway contributed 10. Rachel Looney tossed in 10 points and had 16 boards, and Chelsey Linebaugh netted four points. Jordan Rorex and Carrie Massey chipped in three points each, and Lacey Cobble closed with two points.
The Walnut Ridge junior high girls recorded a win, defeating Quitman 30-19.
The junior Lady Bobcats led 7-3 after one quarter. Quitman rallied to tie the game 12-12 at halftime, but Walnut Ridge regained the lead 18-14 at the close of the third quarter.
Staci Spargo led Walnut Ridge with 11 points, and Ashley Baker added 10. Josie Wagoner tossed in five points, and Lexi Harris had four.
The Lady Bobcats traveled to Judsonia on Dec. 12 to take on White County Central.
Walnut Ridge trailed 23-16 at halftime, but cut WCC's lead to 33-31 heading into the final quarter. The determined Lady Cats overpowered WCC in the final period to claim a 42-37 road win.
Looney led Walnut Ridge with 21 points. Oliver added 11 points, and Treadway tossed in eight. Linebaugh chipped in five points, and Rorex contributed four points and Cobble closed with two.
In junior girls basketball, WCC led 8-4 over the junior Lady Bobcats at tht close of the first quarter. WCC continued to lead at halftime 18-11.
After the break, Walnut Ridge began closing in on the Lady Bears and trailed by only three points 24-21.
Walnut Ridge pulled out a 29-26 win in the final period.
Baker led the Cats with nine points. Wagoner and Spargo contributed six points each, and Harris added four points. Amanda Emison and Regan Jean tossed in two points each.
