BR girls lose to Lady Bulldogs

The Black Rock Lady Zebras lost to the Cushman Lady Bulldogs 48-41 in senior girls basketball on Friday at Black Rock, despite a 27-point performance by Whitney Martin.
Cushman took a 25-12 halftime lead over the Lady Zebras and led 36-27 heading into the final quarter.
Also for the Lady Zebras, Brittany Anderson contributed eight points, four assists and five rebounds. Stephanie Bagwell had three points and four steals. Bethany Erwin added two points, and Jordan Fore closed with a free throw and six assists.
The Lady Zebras visited Maynard on Thursday and were defeated by the Lady Tigers 89-81 in overtime in senior girls basketball.
Maynard took a 17-15 lead at the close of the first quarter, but Black Rock edged into a one-point lead 34-33 at halftime.
Black Rock moved out to a 52-45 lead heading into the final period, but Maynard fought back to tie the game 70-70 at the end of regulation and send the contest into overtime, where they prevailed over the Lady Zebras.
Fore led Black Rock with 29 points, six assists and five rebounds. Martin added 18 points, and Erwin contributed 18 points and 11 rebounds. Anderson scored 10 points and had 10 rebounds. Shanda Whitlow added four points, and Stephanie Bagwell closed with two points.
Maynard won the junior girls contest 33-21 over Black Rock.
Maynard took a 14-5 lead over the Lady Zebras at the end of the first quarter and continued to lead 21-10 at halftime.
Maynard did not let up in the second half, as they led 30-16 as the final quarter of play approached.
Jessica Rudd led the Zebras with five points and Amber Lamb contributed four points. Katie Lewis and Tiffany Pentecost each added three points, while Sarah Sloan, Megan Jones and Sara Penn each tossed in two points.
The Cedar Ridge Lady Timberwolves defeated Black Rock 56-30 in senior girls basketball on Dec. 5 at Black Rock.
Black Rock was led by Martin with 11 points.
Black Rock hosted Izard County Consolidated in junior high and seventh grade girls basketball on Dec. 4.
In junior high action, ICC slipped past the junior Lady Zebras 24-22.
Black Rock took an early 4-2 lead after the first quarter, but ICC fought back to take a 10-9 halftime lead.
ICC continued to hold a small 16-14 lead entering the final period.
Rudd led the junior Lady Zebras with nine points, and Pentecost added six points. Sloan tossed in four points and Lamb had three.
ICC won the seventh grade game 23-12.
ICC took lead 6-1 lead at the close of the first quarter, 10-5 at halftime and 18-10 after three quarters.
Katie Lewis led Black Rock with 12 points.
