Mustangs beat EPCDebbie Richey
The Hoxie Mustangs claimed a 69-58 win over East Poinsett County in senior high basketball on Friday at Hoxie.
The Mustangs led 32-23 at the close of the first quarter. EPC cut the Mustangs' lead to 49-44, but the Mustangs were able to hold off the Warriors to record the win.
Ray Volner recorded a triple-double for the Mustangs with 24 points, 13 rebounds and 10 blocks. Tanner Jarrett also was in the double digits with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Jonathan Lawrence contributed eight points and five assists. Byron Stocker also pulled down five boards, and Tyler Thompson closed with six points and 11 rebounds. Tyler Wallis recorded five assists.
EPC defeated Hoxie 45-27 in a junior boys contest.
Jeremy Anglin led Hoxie with 10 points, and Jake Hitt tossed in seven points. Joseph Richardson had seven boards and Zack Rogers pulled down six rebounds.
The Mustangs traveled to Piggott on Dec. 5 and dropped a 54-47 decision to the Mohawks.
Piggott held an early 24-21 lead, but Hoxie came back to grab a 34-33 lead, but couldn't hold off the Mohawks.
Volner led Hoxie with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Lawrence had eight points, and Jarrett added seven. Stocker closed with six points.
The Hoxie junior Mustangs defeated Piggott 31-30 when Anglin hit two free throws with seven seconds remaining to give Hoxie the win.
Anglin finished with 12 points, and Hitt added six. Richardson closed with five points, while Rogers and Jonathan Quesada each had four.
The Hoxie seventh grade boys defeated Piggott 37-25.
Sebastian Irvin led Hoxie with 17 points, and Dylan Dulaney added 10. Kenny Mashburn and Brody VanWinkle each closed with four points, and Sully Bigger added two.
