Zebras fall to Cushman

The Black Rock Zebras lost to the Cushman Bulldogs 49-44 in senior boys basketball on Friday at Black Rock.
Cushman led 32-18 at halftime and 36-25 entering the fourth quarter. A Zebra rally in the final period fell short, as Cushman held on for the win.
Mitchell Thompson led Black Rock with 16 points and five steals. Les Foster added 14, and Chris Richardson had six. Tommy Lawrence had three points and 10 rebounds. Anthony Todd had two points and five rebounds, and Noe Linan recorded three points. Matt Chadwick had five boards.
The Black Rock junior Zebras earned a 48-25 victory over Cushman. Black Rock led 12-7 at the end of the first quarter and 29-9 to close out the first half.
Cushman was overwhelmed by the Zebras, trailing 41-13 heading into the final quarter of play.
Ben Walker led the junior Zebras with 12 points and five steals. Tadd Fore notched 10 points and five steals, and Joe Carey had six points. Tyler Roby, Trent Moreledge and Tyler Newell all contributed four points, and Kris Foster closed with three. Hunter Horton added two points, and Andrew Boggs hit a free throw.
The Black Rock boys traveled to Maynard and won a 72-70 barnburner over the Tigers in senior boys' basketball on Thursday.
Black Rock raced to a 17-9 lead to close out the first quarter and maintained a 31-29 lead at halftime.
Black Rock continued to lead Maynard in the third quarter, as technicals flew, the Zebras held a 51-46 advantage heading into the final period. Black Rock held on for the win, as the Tigers missed a three-point shot at the buzzer.
Foster led the Zebras with 24 points and four assists. Todd added 13 points and 12 rebounds, and Lawrence added 10 points and seven rebounds. Thompson tossed in nine points and four assists. Matt Chadwick and Michael Franks closed with eight points, and Linan contributed two points.
Black Rock fell to the Cedar Ridge Timberwolves 58-33 on Dec. 5 at Black Rock.
The Timberwolves led 16-9 heading into the second quarter and moved out to a 37-21 lead late in the third period.
Chadwick and Foster each had seven points to lead Black Rock.
The Black Rock junior boys posted a 39-23 win over Cedar Ridge.
Black Rock fell behind early, but came back to record a 42-36 win over Izard County Consolidated in junior high basketball on Dec. 4 at Black Rock.
ICC took a 13-7 lead over the junior Zebras at the close of the first quarter. Black Rock hit the boards, but was unable to halt ICC, and trailed 21-16 at halftime.
The Zebras began to dominate the hardwood in the second half, but still trailed 32-30 as the third quarter ended. The junior Zebras earned the victory 42-36 over the Cougars.
Walker led Black Rock with 15 points. Horton tossed in nine points, and Roby contributed five points and pulled down 10 boards. Moreledge and Carey each closed with four points, and Tadd Fore notched three points for the night.
In a seventh grade contest, ICC jumped out to a 12-2 after one quarter, but the Zebras rallied to cut the deficit to 15-14 at halftime.
ICC extended the lead to 27-16 after three quarters on their way to recording a 33-22 win over the Zebras.
Tyler Newell led Black Rock with nine points.
