Hillcrest splits games
with Delaplaine

The Hillcrest Screamin' Eagles hosted the Delaplaine Indians in senior boys basketball at Lynn for homecoming on Friday.

Delaplaine jumped out to a 20-12 first-quarter lead over the Eagles and continued hammering Hillcrest in the second period, increasing their lead to 37-17 at halftime.

The Screamin' Eagles were unable to make up any ground on Delaplaine, and trailed 61-35 as the final quarter began. The Indians coasted to a 69-51 win.

Aaron Britton led Hillcrest with 12 points, and Dustin Durham added eight. Jared Parker had seven points, and Rob Mize and Ludie Sexton contributed six points each. Dillion Simpson tossed in four points, and Jordan Hunter closed with three points. Spencer Matthews and Chris Blevins each added two points.

Senior girls

The Lady Screamin' Eagles dominated the Lady Indians in the senior girls contest, winning 56-25.

Hillcrest jumped to an 18-2 lead after one quarter and led 30-12 at halftime.

The Lady Eagles continued their domination in the second half and led 47-19 at the close of the third quarter.

Amber Glenn led Hillcrest with 12 points, followed by Whitney Jones with 10. Kalie Durham tossed in nine points, while Jessica Broadway and Lauren Pickle added seven points each. Breanna Doyle contributed six points, and Jessica Jarrett closed with five.

Junior boys

Derek Wooten scored 26 points to lead Hillcrest over Delaplaine 48-38 in the junior boys game.

Hillcrest took a 14-8 lead after the first quarter and maintained a six-point advantage at 25-19 at halftime.

The junior Eagles increased their lead to 40-23 heading into the final quarter.

Also for Hillcrest, Tye Hines contributed eight points, and Tyler Crews added five. Chris Jones tossed in four points, Hunter Durham notched three points and Trevor Morgan closed with two free throws.
