Zebras split games
with Armorel, CRA

Armorel defeated Black Rock 61-52 in a hard-fought senior high boys basketball game Friday at Black Rock.

Black Rock trailed 13-9 after the first quarter, but cut the Armorel lead to 28-27 at halftime.

The Zebras forged ahead in the third period and held a 42-36 lead entering the final quarter, but couldn't hold off the Tigers.

Mitch Thompson led Black Rock with 14 points. Matt Chadwick had 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Tommy Lawrence had 10 points. Michael Franks added eight points, and Les Foster had seven. Noe Linan tossed in two for the Zebras.

Black Rock won the junior high game 57-39.

Black Rock took an early 11-5 lead over Armorel and continued the pace, leading 30-14 at halftime.

The Tigers tried to rally, but failed, as the junior Zebras led 37-32 as the third quarter came to an end.

Joe Carey led the Zebras with 14 points. Ben Walker added 12 points and six steals, and Trent Morledge tossed in 11 points. Tadd Fore notched 10 points and four assists, and Tyler Roby also contributed 10 points and pulled down eight rebounds.

Crowley's Ridge Academy

Crowley's Ridge Academy won a 63-48 decision over Black Rock on Thursday at Paragould.

CRA grabbed a 16-10 lead to close out the first quarter and led 55-33 over Black Rock heading into the final quarter of play.

Lawrence led the Zebras with 17 points. Mitch Thompson contributed 14 points and eight rebounds. Franks added five points, and Chris Richardson totaled four points. Chadwick notched three points, Foster had three points and five rebounds, and Linan added two points.

In junior high action, Black Rock defeated CRA 28-19.

CRA slipped ahead with a 5-4 lead at the close of the first quarter, but the junior Zebras moved ahead with a 14-13 lead at halftime.

Carey led Black Rock with 17 points. Morledge contributed seven points, and Walker added six. Fore closed with five points, Roby notched two points and Kris Foster added a free throw.
