Hoxie claims WBC title
with win over Hillcrest

The top-seeded Hillcrest Lady Screamin' Eagles and the second-seeded Hoxie Lady Mustangs advanced through the field to meet in an all Lawrence County final of the 47th annual Williams Baptist College Tournament on Saturday, with the Lady Mustangs capturing the title with a 58-46 win.
Hoxie moved out to a 15-10 lead over the Eagles in the first quarter. The second quarter was full of nets and boards, as both teams traveled back and forth on the hardwood, with Hoxie maintaining a 24-21 lead over Hillcrest, heading into the dressing rooms for the break.
As the third quarter concluded, the Screamin' Eagles trailed the Lady Mustangs 38-34.
The Lady Eagles got to within two points of Hoxie at 38-36 early in the fourth quarter, but within minutes Breanna Doyle of Hillcrest fouled out, followed by Whitney Jones. Hoxie outlasted Hillcrest to take the championship.
Megan Black led Hoxie with 17 points. Jessica Anglin added 13 points, and Ashley Glenn tossed in 12 points. Jessica Barber had seven points, Rachel Goff netted five points and Whitney Parrish closed with four points.
Jessica Broadway led Hillcrest with 22 points, and Breanna Doyle contributed 17 points. Jessica Jarrett closed with five points, and Whitney Jones tossed in two points
Hoxie ~ Maynard
Hoxie outlasted Maynard 48-47 in the first girls' semifinal game on Friday.
The Lady Mustangs jumped ahead with a 7-5 lead as they entered the second quarter. Maynard was overpowered by Hoxie, as the Lady Mustangs led 27-14 at halftime.
The Lady Tigers began to dominate the nets, scoring 18 in the third quarter to cut the Lady Mustang's lead to 35-31 entering the final period.
Maynard did not give up, as a two-point shot missed at the buzzer.
Hoxie was led by Anglin with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Black added 12 points, and Parrish contributed nine points. Glenn tossed in eight, Barber netted three points and Goff added two points.
The Hillcrest Lady Screamin' Eagles advanced to the finals with a 52-37 win over Viola in the second girls semifinal game on Friday.
The Lady Eagles' intensity was too much for Viola, as they closed the opening quarter with a commanding 18-4 lead.
Viola failed to halt the Eagles, as Hillcrest took a 26-13 lead into halftime.
Hillcrest continued forcing Longhorn turnovers in the second half, resulting in a 37-24 Screamin' Eagle lead after three quarters. Viola failed to make up any ground in the final period, as Hillcrest advanced.
Doyle led the Eagles with 17 points, nine rebounds and six steals. Broadway finished with 15 points, eight boards and three assists. Jarrett contributed 11 points, and Amber Glenn added four points and 10 rebounds. Lauren Pickle tossed in three points and three rebounds, and Jones closed with two points and five rebounds.
