Natalea Foster, a sophomore at Walnut Ridge High School, was recently selected as the school's 2006 Hugh O'Brian Youth Leader.
The Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Program is designed to bring together sophomore students from throughout the state to meet and interact with leaders from the areas of business, technology, education, government, arts and science.
Through this interaction students get a realistic look at their nation, its people and their own role in the world community.
The HOBY vision is to motivate and empower individuals to make a positive difference within the global society through understanding and action based on effective and compassionate leadership.
Expected outcomes of the program are that students will learn to think critically, enhance their leadership skills and learn to make their school and communities a better place.
The HOBY program was started in 1958 by actor Hugh O'Brian who wanted to make a difference in the lives of young leaders and motivate them to reach their potential.
Selected students participate in a weekend seminar with an opportunity to be selected for the World Leaders Conference held in July.
Foster is the daughter of Dr. Robert and Lea Andra Foster. She is active in the Key Club, S.L.I.C.E., Student Council and other school clubs and activities.
Samantha Knight was selected as the alternate for the program. She is the daughter of Kerry and Melonie Knight. She is also a sophomore at WRHS.
