Mustangs drop close matchup

The Hoxie Mustangs lost a 68-64 nail-biter to Hughes in senior boys basketball on Nov. 21 at Hoxie.

Hoxie took a 15-11 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Hughes tied the game 28-28 at halftime.

Hughes slipped past the Mustangs in the third quarter to take a 46-43 lead into the final period.

Hoxie was led by Tanner Jarrett with 22 points and seven rebounds. Ray Volner had 16 points, and Jon Lawrence netted 12.

Hoxie won the junior high contest 47-36 over Hughes.

The game was tied 13-13 after one quarter and 24-24 at halftime.

Hoxie grabbed a 40-31 lead in the third quarter and held off Hughes in the final period to claim the win.

Jake Hill led Hoxie with 12 points and five rebounds. Cade Crisler had seven points, while Jeremy Anglin and Jake Smith added five points each.
