Lady Screamin' Eagles sweep BR
Hillcrest hosted Black Rock for an evening of girls high school basketball action on Nov. 14 at Lynn. The Lady Screamin' Eagles swept the Lady Zebras, picking up wins in senior high, junior high and seventh grade girls contests.
In the senior high contest, Hillcrest jumped to a 12-3 lead in the first quarter and led 27-15 at halftime. The Lady Eagles widened the gap to 47-27 entering the final period en route to posting a 62-37 win.
Lauren Pickle led the Lady Eagles with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Breanna Doyle added 15 points and six steals. Jessica Broadway contributed 12 points and seven rebounds. Amber Glenn added nine points. Jessica Jarrett closed with four points, and Whitney Jones had two.
The Lady Zebras were led by Whitney Martin with 10 points and five rebounds. Stephanie Bagwell added seven points and four rebounds. Betheny Erwin contributed six points. Brittany Anderson closed with five points and eight rebounds. Jordan Fore had three points and four assists. Shanda Whitlow had three points, and Meghan Truitt added a free throw and five rebounds.
In the junior high contest, a closely played first half saw Hillcrest leading 4-3 after one quarter and 12-7 at halftime.
Hillcrest used a strong defensive effort in the second half to claim the win. The junior Lady Eagles held Black Rock to two points in each of the final two quarters to take the 30-11 victory.
The junior Lady Eagles were led by Miranda Doyle with 10 points and four steals. Tamara Evans contributed seven points, and Natalie Johnson scored four. Katelyn Hammock had three points and four boards, and Stevie Howard, Leah Smith and Kelsea Sneed each tossed in two points.
Sara Sloan led Black Rock with four points and six rebounds. Jessica Rudd tossed in three points, and Callie Miller had two.
In the seventh grade contest, Hillcrest held Black Rock scoreless for three quarters en route to a 21-2 win.
Kelley Beasley and Kalie Hammock led the Lady Eagles with six points each, followed by Morgan Penn with five points. Sarah Saffell, Mackenzie Nunnally and Morgan Penn each contributed two points.
For Black Rock, Sara Penn had two points, and Katie Lewis recorded seven blocks and six rebounds.
