Zebras earn homecoming win
The Black Rock Zebras hosted the Hillcrest Screamin' Eagles for Homecoming on Friday night. The county rivals split a pair of closely contested games, with Hillcrest winning the junior high game and Black Rock prevailing in the senior high contest.
In the senior high game, Hillcrest slipped out to an 11-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and increased the lead to 22-14 at halftime.
The Zebras rallied in the second half, tying the game at 22-22 early in the third quarter. The game was tied again at 30-30 before the Zebras edged in front 34-33 heading into the final quarter. The score went back and forth until Black Rock managed a 42-36 lead with 3:50 to play. Hillcrest began fouling to gain possession of the ball, but the Zebras converted their free throws to seal the 58-48 win.
Tommy Lawrence and Michael Franks led Black Rock with 18 points apiece, and Lawrence pulled down eight rebounds. Matt Chadwick had six points, followed by Noe Linan and Anthony Todd with five each, and Les Foster added a free throw.
Hillcrest was led by Chris Blevins with 12 points and Jordan Hunter with 10.
In the junior high game, Hillcrest took a 19-13 lead at the close of the first half and led 33-21 heading into the final quarter, en route to a 40-28 win over the junior Zebras.
Tadd Fore led Black Rock with 10 points. Joe Paul Carey tossed in seven and Ben Walker added five. Kris Foster, Trent Morledge and Hunter Horton each had two points.
