Zebras defeat Mount Pleasant
The Black Rock Zebras defeated the Mount Pleasant Bluebirds 55-45 in senior boys basketball Friday at Black Rock.
The Zebras held a one-point lead at the end of the first quarter 7-6 and continued to lead 22-20 at halftime.
The Zebras moved out to a 37-31 lead after the third quarter, en route to the win.
Mitch Thompson led Black Rock with 13 points. Matt Chadwick contributed 11 points and three assists. Les Foster contributed 10 points, while Tommy Lawrence added nine points and pulled down seven rebounds. Anthony Todd had six rebounds
In junior boys action, Mount Pleasant claimed a 58-34 win over the junior Zebras.
The junior Bluebirds took a 12-10 lead over the Zebras after the first quarter. Mount Pleasant continued to lead 30-16 heading to the dressing room at halftime.
The junior Zebras failed to control the Bluebirds in the second half and trailed 44-28 entering the fourth quarter.
Tadd Fore led the junior Zebras with seven points. Tyler Roby and Joe Paul Carey contributed six points each. Roby pulled down 10 rebounds, and Ben Walker recorded four assists and four steals.
Weiner defeated Black Rock in a junior high boys B contest 41-28 on Thursday at Black Rock.
For Black Rock, Tyler Newell scored 11 points and Cord Boggs added 10. Andrew Boggs contributed five points and three rebounds, and Cody McKenzie tossed in two points and had seven rebounds.
The Black Rock seventh grade boys defeated Weiner 41-39 on the strength of a 27-point performance by Tyler Newell. Spencer Doyle added eight points and four rebounds, and Shawn Anderson had three points. Cord Boggs had two points and a rebound, and Cody McKenzie added a free throw.
Black Rock traveled to Weiner on Nov. 7 and suffered a 66-37 setback at the hands of the Cardinals in senior high boys basketball.
The Cardinals took a 17-4 lead at the close of the first quarter and did not let up on their way to a 66-37 victory.
Thompson led Black Rock with 14 points and four rebounds, and Foster contributed 10 points. Lawrence and Noe Linan closed with four rebounds.
Weiner won the junior boys contest 52-31 over Black Rock.
Black Rock's Roby had 13 points and 10 rebounds, and Trent Moreledge had 10 points. Hunter Horton pulled down six rebounds.
