Hoxie girls sweep HarrisburgDebbie Richey
The Hoxie Lady Mustangs opened the 2006-2007 basketball season by sweeping three games from the Harrisburg Lady Hornets on Nov. 9 at Hoxie.
In senior girls action, the Lady Mustangs took an early 14-8 lead over the Lady Hornets. Hoxie dominated the second quarter and led 27-8 at halftime.
Hoxie held the Lady Hornets at bay in the second half, leading 40-20 after three quarters, en route to the 52-31 win.
For Hoxie, Jessica Anglin had 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Jessica Barber added 10 points and 11 rebounds.
In junior girls action, Hoxie jumped ahead of Harrisburg 8-4 at the close of the first quarter. The junior Lady Hornets slipped up on the Lady Mustangs in the second quarter to tie the game 14-14 at halftime.
The Lady Mustangs regained the lead at 22-19 at the end of the third quarter. Harrisburg did not give in, as they tied the game 35-35 to send the game into overtime.
In the overtime period, Hoxie's Amy Galbreath hit two free throws with 2.5 seconds left to win the game for the junior Lady Mustangs 41-40.
Galbreath led Hoxie with 17 points, and Alyssa McConnell added eight points.
In seventh grade girls action, Harrisburg led 4-2 at the close of the first quarter. As the teams took a halftime break, the Lady Mustangs had gained a 7-6 lead over the Lady Hornets.
Hoxie continued to gain momentum in the second half, taking a 16-7 lead after three quarters, on their way to posting a 22-13 win.
Hoxie was led by Ashlyn Abbott with eight points and Hali Pratt with five points.
