Rogers, Roberts elected
to mayoral positions

Michelle Rogers was elected Walnut Ridge mayor and Donnie Roberts was elected mayor in Hoxie during the Nov. 7 municipal elections.
The final results revealed that neither candidate would require a runoff even though Rogers faced three opponents, and Roberts was in a three-man race.
Rogers, who defeated incumbent Mayor Glenn Murphy, Alderman Rickey Ditto and former Alderman John Monroe, will be Walnut Ridge's first female mayor. continued...
Johnny Sain died at 89
Johnny Sain, who ranks with some of the all-time greats in professional baseball, once called Walnut Ridge his home.
Sain, remembered as both a great professional baseball pitcher and pitching coach, died last Tuesday in a Chicago suburb. He was 89. His obituary can be found on page 3A. continued...
Greene Co. electors
During last Tuesday's election, the Shady Grove precinct, located in Greene County, just outside the Lawrence County line, southeast of Sedgwick, voted to allow the sale of alcohol.

JPs approve 2007 budgetIn their regular meeting on Monday night, the Quorum Court approved the 2007 budget, as follows: Projected revenue for 2007 is $2,553,166.80, and projected expenditures are $2,549,529.24. The budget committee recommended holding 10 percent of the budget for emergencies rather than the required five percent. continued...
