Hillcrest girls claim win

The Hillcrest Lady Screamin' Eagles took the long road trip to Quitman Friday and picked up a 40-23 win in senior girls' basketball action.

Jessica Broadway led Hillcrest with 12 points and five rebounds. Jessica Jarrett contributed 10 points and five rebounds, and Whitney Jones added seven points. Amber Glenn closed with six points and five rebounds, while Breanna Doyle and Kalie Durham notched two points each. Lauren Pickle tossed in a free throw.

The junior Lady Eagles also defeated Quitman 25-19.

Natalie Johnson led Hillcrest with 10 points and five rebounds. Tamara Evans added six points and Miranda Doyle contributed five. Stevie Howard and Katelyn Hammock closed with two points each.


The Lady Eagles hosted Williford at Lynn on Thursday. Hillcrest jumped to a 22-10 lead over the Lady Indians in the first quarter and held Williford to two points in the second quarter and moved to a 35-12 halftime lead.

The Lady Screamin' Eagles continued to pound Williford in the third period and increased the lead to 53-19. With the mercy rule in effect in the final quarter, Hillcrest put the game away 68-24.

Doyle led the Lady Eagles with 19 points and six rebounds. Jarrett contributed 16 points and six rebounds. Glenn recorded 11 points and 10 rebounds. Jones closed with 10 points, and Broadway had five. Terra Polston added three points, and Durham scored two. Pickle notched two points and six rebounds.

White County Central

The senior and junior high Lady Eagles hosted the White County Central Lady Bears Oct. 30 at Strawberry. Both Hillcrest teams recorded a lopsided win over the visitors from Judsonia.

In the senior high contest, Hillcrest took a 12-5 lead as the first quarter came to a close. The Eagles continued their attack on the Lady Bears in the second quarter and moved to a 21-15 lead at halftime.

The Lady Eagles continued pounding the Bears with their defense, and led 34-23 at the close of the third quarter. Hillcrest put the game away in the final period for a 49-30 conference win.

Broadway led Hillcrest with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Doyle added 11 points and five rebounds. Glenn contributed eight points, and Jarrett added seven. Jones and Pickle closed with two points each.

In the junior high contest, Hillcrest controlled the first quarter for an 11-2 lead. The junior Lady Eagles continued their dominance in the second period and led 25-5 at halftime. The Hillcrest defense held the junior Lady Bears to two points in the third period, as they extended the lead to 30-7 entering the final period. Several Hillcrest players saw playing time, and the junior Lady Eagles posted a 42-16 conference win.

Johnson led Hillcrest with eight points, followed by Doyle with seven. Kelsea Sneed and Hammock each had six points. Evans had five points and five rebounds, and Leah Smith added four points. Allie Harris, Mackenzie Nunnally, Samantha Parker and Sarah Saffell each added two points.
