Bobcats ready for playoffs

The Walnut Ridge Bobcats closed the 2006 football regular season with a 57-26 loss to the Carlisle Bison Friday at Carlisle. The Bobcats travel to Earle on Friday for a first-round game in the 2A state playoffs.

Carlisle grabbed a 23-8 lead at the close of the first quarter. Walnut Ridge was unable to stop Carlisle's momentum and trailed 45-14 at halftime. continued...

Hoxie advances to state

Alex Ward led a balanced Hoxie ground attack as the Mustangs rolled to a 42-0 win over Hughes in senior high football Thursday at Hughes. The win, coupled with Piggott's 48-0 win over Brinkley, secured Hoxie a berth in the state football playoffs. The Mustangs will travel to Gurdon on Friday to take on the Gurdon Go-Devils at 7:30. continued...
