Hillcrest boys fall to Melbourne

Defense is the name of the game for Hillcrest's Patrick Corder, along with Dillion Simpson (#44) and Ludie Sexton (#15). The Screamin' Eagles stayed close throughout their game against Melbourne, but lost in the end 56-48.

The Hillcrest senior boys lost to the Melbourne Bearkatz 56-48 on Oct. 24 at Lynn.

Hillcrest took a 14-12 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Bearkatz slipped ahead of the Screamin' Eagles 23-19 at halftime.

Melbourne continued to lead 44-35 heading in to the final period. Hillcrest was unable to catch Melbourne, as the Bearkatz took the win.

Jordan Hunter led Hillcrest with 14 points. Aaron Britton contributed 11 points. Rob Mize scored six points. Chris Blevins notched three points. Patrick Corder and Dillion Simpson closed with two points each.

Junior high

The Hillcrest junior Screamin' Eagles traveled to Melbourne on Thursday and fell to the junior Bearkatz 45-36.

Melbourne jumped ahead 13-5 at the end of the first quarter. Hillcrest was unable to close the margin, as the Bearkatz extended their lead to 25-13 at halftime.

Hillcrest outscored Melbourne in the third quarter to close the gap, but still trailed the junior Bearkatz 33-26 after three quarters.

The Eagles made a gallant attempt in the final quarter, but fell short, with Melbourne taking the win.

Derek Wooten led the Eagles with 16 points. Dylan Wooten contributed eight points. Hunter Durham added six points, Coty Richey had four points and Tye Hines added two.

Hillcrest defeated Melbourne in a seventh grade contest 34-28.

Hillcrest took an 8-6 lead at the close of the first quarter, but Melbourne came from behind to tie the game 12-12 at the halftime break.

The Screamin' Eagles reclaimed the lead 22-18 at the close of the third quarter. The Eagles continued to hammer the boards as the Bearkats faltered in the final period.

Hillcrest was led by Tyler Parker with 14 points. Austin Harris contributed six points, and Craig Howard added five. Logan Pickle had four points, Ethan Holder closed with three points, and Ben Allen tossed in two points.

Mammoth Spring

The Hillcrest junior Screamin' Eagles held off a second-half rally by Mammoth Spring to defeat the junior Bears 37-33 Friday at Lynn.

A low-scoring first quarter saw the junior Screamin' Eagles take a 3-0 lead.

The Hillcrest defense continued to rattle Mammoth Spring in the second period, holding the Bears to two points in the first half. The Eagles headed into the dressing room at halftime with an 11-2 lead.

The Bears came out fired up after halftime and cut the Eagles' lead to 22-21 at the end of the third quarter.

The teams continued to battle until the last seconds of the game, with Hillcrest taking the win.

Hillcrest was led by Derek Wooten with 21 points, including four three-pointers. Dylan Wooten contributed 11 points, while Trevor Morgan and Tyler Crews contributed two points each.
