Hillcrest sweeps BRDebbie Richey
Hillcrest and Black Rock tipped off the basketball season on Oct. 16 at Strawberry.
Black Rock took an 8-5 lead at the close of the first quarter and the Zebras held an 18-16 lead over the Screamin' Eagles at halftime.
Hillcrest rallied to tie the game 27-27 after three quarters.
Hillcrest began hitting the boards in the final quarter and claimed a 47-40 win over Black Rock.
For Hillcrest, Aaron Britton and Jordan Hunter both topped out with 11 points each. Britton added a steal and five rebounds. Rob Mize had eight points with an assist, a steal and six rebounds, and Ludie Sexton added six points, an assist, a steal and a rebound. Chris Blevins closed with four points and a rebound. Patrick Corder had three points. Dillion Simpson also had three points, with an assist and two steals. Jared Parker added a free throw.
Mitch Thompson led Black Rock with 20 points.
Hillcrest led 6-4 at the close of the first quarter.
The second quarter was quiet, as the Eagles scored one point to the Zebras' none.
Back after the break, the Zebras came alive to take an 18-15 lead heading into the final quarter, but Hillcrest regained the lead and took the 28-26 victory over Black Rock.
Derek Wooten led Hillcrest with nine points, six assists, three steals and two rebounds. Dylan Wooten had seven points and one steal. Clifton Jacob had six points, one assist and one steal. Hunter Durham contributed four points and two rebounds. Tyler Durham closed with two points and a steal, and Tyler Crews had one assist and four rebounds.
In junior high girls action, the Lady Screamin' Eagles took a 31-2 victory over the Lady Zebras, as the Eagles defense forced 31 Zebra turnovers.
Tamara Evans led Hillcrest with seven points, followed by Kelsea Sneed with six points and Katelyn Hammock with five. Natalie Johnson and Miranda Doyle both added four points.
