Eagles lose close one to Pirates
Screamin' Eagle Jordan Hunter guards a Calico Rock player during a close game played at Strawberry. The Screamin' Eagles came up just short, dropping the game 49-47.
Hillcrest lost to Calico Rock 49-47 in senior boys basketball on Friday night at Strawberry.
Calico Rock led 15-8 at the close of the first quarter and continued to hold a 31-25 lead at halftime.
The Pirates slipped by the Eagles 49-47 to take the win.
Aaron Britton and Dillion Simpson led Hillcrest with 13 points each. Rob Mize added 10 points. Chris Blevins contributed seven points, and Jared Parker added four.
In junior boys action, Hillcrest took a 13-9 lead at the close of the first quarter, and the game was tied 24-24 at halftime.
Both teams continued to hammer the boards in the third quarter, and the game was tied 37-37 heading into the final period of play. The game was tied again 46-46 at the end of regulation and the teams headed into overtime. The Screamin' Eagles took the win 57-46 over the Pirates.
Derek Wooten led the Eagles with 24 points. Jacob Clifton had 16 points, and Dylan Wooten contributed 12. Tyler Crews and Tye Hines both added two points.
Hillcrest took a road trip to Delaplaine on Oct. 17 and were defeated 62-45 by the Indians in senior high action.
Delaplaine led 20-8 after one quarter and increased their lead to 37-14 at halftime.
The Screamin' Eagles outscored the Indians 16-8 in the third period, but still trailed 45-30 heading into the final period.
Britton led the Eagles with 15 points. Blevins pulled down 12 rebounds and scored four points. Hunter added nine points and Mize contributed eight. Parker and Sexton both closed with four points, while Simpson had three and Corder added two.
