Wet/dry issue could
A wet/dry issue on the General Election ballot in Greene County could affect Lawrence County residents, as well.
affect Lawrence Co.
According to Linda Heritage, Greene County clerk, a petition has been filed with her office to place an issue on the ballot concerning the Shady Grove Precinct.
Though Greene County is a wet county, Heritage said there are some precincts and even one ward in the Paragould city limits that have been voted dry through the years.
The Shady Grove Precinct, located in the small section of Greene County that falls between Lawrence and Craighead counties on Highway 63, just southeast of Sedgwick, is one of those areas.
Now, voters in that precinct will decide in November whether the area will remain dry or will become wet.
As of June 1, there were 63 registered voters in Shady Grove. That number has increased by 33 to a total of 96 voters who will be eligible to vote in the election.
"There has been quite a bit of interest," Heritage said.
A total of 44 signatures were turned in on the petition.
