Hoxie to raise prices
for water, sewer taps
Hoxie City Council voted unanimously to raise the price of water and sewer taps in their regular meeting on Oct. 10.
It was recommended that the price be raised from $125 to $250 for 3/4-inch pipes because the city has been charging below cost to install them. One- and two-inch lines will be installed at cost.
In unfinished business, Mayor Paul Hendrix informed the council that the dirt work has been completed for the new fire department.
Hendrix also showed council members a survey map of the property, which shows that a resident with adjoining property has his fence 10 feet over the property line. A letter has been sent to the property owner requesting the fence be moved.
David Mason, code enforcement officer, gave the council an update on storage containers that are in violation of the cleanup ordinance, saying letters were ready to be sent. He also recommended that the council begin condemnation procedures on three other properties. The properties are located at 610 Northeast Second Street, 100 Northeast Fourth Street and one on the corner of Boas and Texas.
In other business:
- Hendrix informed the council that the planning and zoning committee approved a daycare on Pine Street, which is a residential area, during their meeting on Oct. 9.
- The council voted to accept bids on a new vehicle for the street department at the recommendation of Alderman Jim Kirksey.
