The Lawrence Memorial Hospital conference room was overflowing with people Friday as they gathered to honor Leah Osbahr, Lawrence Health Services administrator, who was recently named the C.E. Melville Young Administrator of the Year by the Arkansas Hospital Association.

A selection committee chose Osbahr from those who were nominated for the honor. She said she was honored just to be nominated, not to mention winning the award.

"She's a good administrator," Bill Maxwell, chair of the LHS board of Directors, said. "It's an honor not only for her, but for the hospital and the whole county."

Osbahr has been leading the staff at LHS since 2004.

County Judge Alex Latham said it is an honor for Lawrence County to have Osbahr working in the community.

"We think she's doing a real good job," Latham said. "And, we're just real thankful to have someone that people in the industry think is doing a good job."

Osbahr and her husband, Dennis, live in Walnut Ridge. Their daughters, Jessica and Megan are both students at Walnut Ridge School. In addition, Osbahr has become active in the community over the past couple of years.

She is a member of the local Kiwanis Club, the Lawrence County Healthcare Coalition and the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce. In addition, she is involved with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates).

She holds master's degrees in health service administration from UALR and public health from Tulane, as well as a bachelor's degree from UCA and an associate's degree from UAMS. She served as the director of medical services at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences before taking the president position at LHS.
