Grandparents' Corner

Trisha Glenn (front, from left), 14, Braden Glenn, three, Natalie Glenn, nine; Cassie Glenn (back), 18 and Amber Glenn, 16, are the grandchildren of Sherry Glenn of Lynn and the late Larry Glenn and the great-grandchildren of Brooks and Isophene Glenn of Lynn. Cassie and Trisha are the daughters of Randy and Belinda Glenn of Lynn. They are also the grandchildren of Jack and Betty Rainwater of Lynn and the great-grandchildren of Elsie Rainwater. Amber and Natalie are the daughters of Brent and Melinda Glenn of Lynn. They are also the grandchildren of Candy Faulkner and Mike Western, both of Batesville, and the great-grandchildren of Nellie Western. Braden is the son of David and Christy Glenn of Lynn. He is also the grandson of Thomas and Susan Gawf of Lynn and the great-grandson of Vergilene Verkler Polluck of Rogers.

Fall frenzy

The Parachute Inn at the Walnut Ridge Airport's Swindle Field is the featured topic in yet another publication. The Batesville Guard featured Donna Robertson, owner, and her 737 Southwest Jet airplane dining room on the front page of their Sept. 27 issue. The headline reads, "Plane good food!!" Robertson said this about receiving the airplane for use as a dining room: "It's been a blessing and a nightmare. I know some people think I'm just 'plane' crazy."

We have reached the high season for fall activities, festivals and events, all of which are worthy of news coverage. On top of this, the General Election on Nov. 7 is less than a month away with early and absentee voting starting around Oct. 23.

The pragmatics of politeness

When you think of manners you:

(A) Cringe at the thought of "all those rules."

(B) Find them unimportant, ineffectual and outdated.

(C) Regard them as pretentious and condescending.

(D) Don't think of them at all.

(E) Think of respect, courtesy and empowerment.
