Walk of Hope is SaturdayFamily, friends and the community will all gather Saturday for the common cause of raising funds to support cancer sufferers and survivors in Lawrence County. The Lawrence County Walk of Hope and Carnival of Hope Cancer Benefit will take place on Hoxie School's Crider Football Field.
Events will begin that day at 3 p.m., at which time a Halloween costume contest will be held. The Candle Light Walk starts at 6 p.m.
Among the activities and concessions planned are: food, games, a silent auction, singing and dancing, vendors, helicopter rides, an American Red Cross bloodmobile and a shotgun giveaway.
Claudia Wheeless, one of the founders and organizers of the walk, said, "We need baked goods for the cake walk and more goods for the silent auction. We also need more talent for the whole afternoon."
Lawrence County Walk of Hope is a support organization that aids cancer survivors and their family members who are dealing with the ramifications of the disease. "We have helped so many people," Wheeless added. The group also supports the American Cancer Society. This is the third year for the Lawrence County event to take place.
Pre-registration to participate in the walk is $10. Registration forms are available at Lawrence County Abstract in Walnut Ridge or First Community Bank in Hoxie. Registration includes a T-shirt. Registration the day of the walk is $12.
