Hoxie discusses economic development
Amber AdamsStaff Writer
Hoxie City Council met in special session Thursday to discuss possible economic development of property located on Highway 63 belonging to Wilson Schmidt.
Schmidt informed the council that he has private investors ready to help business owners open in that area by producing buildings for them.
Although there are four interested businesses right now, according to Schmidt, the council wants to get information on and commitment from potential businesses before doing any developing to the land.
Schmidt will compose a letter to potential businesses describing the location and the area's potential.
He said that expanding the business district of Hoxie to the bypass is an easy way to get much needed economic development for the city.
"Bypasses don't bypass towns," said Schmidt. "They move them."
The council also discussed adding an economic development link to the city's website once the project gets started.
